Sergio Rossi, is a designer who followed the footsteps of his father as a shoemaker. His artistry, passion, and timeless designs have made his shoes indelible works of global adoration.
Sergio Rossi began his talent by working alongside his father in the Romagna region of Italy in the 1950s. In 1966, shortly after apprenticing under his family, Mr. Rossi moved to Milan and sold his own shoes to Bologna. The most famous of Mr. Rossi’s initial connection was the ‘Opanca’ -- the design was mesmerizing as the curvature of the shoe’s sole blended seamlessly with the upper portion of the shoe. In the 1970s, Mr. Rossi’s magnificent designs gained great acclaim in the Milanese Fashion World when he formally collaborated with Gianni Versace’s haute couture collections. In fact, his work became so desired, that Mr. Rossi had trouble keeping up with the demands of the couture designers. To Mr. Rossi, he asserted that a women’s heel should be at least 3” high. This is to give the leg its crucial energy and the female body its new stature.
Over the next two decades, the Sergio Rossi brand has expanded worldwide. The Gucci Group has acquired the brand, and Francesco Russo is its current Creative Director. Some celebrities that are clients of the high-end designer footwear are Anne Hathaway, Milla Jovovich, Madonna, Eva Longoria, Katy Perry, and Naomi Campbell.
